Hamilton dazzles at Bradford’s Alhambra Theatre, blending history with hip-hop.
Bradford: Hamilton is a game-changer in theatre. It mixes hip-hop, jazz, and R&B. The show features non-white actors as historical figures. It tells the story of Alexander Hamilton, an immigrant who became the first US Secretary of the Treasury.
The musical opened a seven-week run at Bradford’s Alhambra Theatre. It’s the only Yorkshire venue on its first UK tour. The show moves quickly, performed like an opera, with passion and humor. The choreography and timing are spot on.
David Korins designed a striking set with brickwork and scaffolding. The cast is fantastic, bringing their characters to life. The audience loved it, cheering after every number and standing for the finale.
Marley Fenton shines as Hamilton, capturing his complex personality. Billy Nevers is great as Aaron Burr, especially in the intense song “The Room Where It Happens.” Other strong performances come from Ashley J Daniels, Akmed Junior Khemalai, Km Drew Boateng, Shak Mancel James, and Louis Maskell.
The show also highlights the women in Hamilton’s life. Eliza Schuyler, Hamilton’s wife, worked hard to promote his legacy. Roshani Abbey portrays her beautifully. Chasity Crisp steals the show as Angelica, especially in her powerful song “Satisfied.”
Hamilton redefines history, celebrating family and friendship. It’s a must-see! The show runs at the Alhambra until March 15.
