Lyme Regis: The town council has just unveiled the newly restored pavilion in Langmoor Gardens. This place was saved from being torn down after a strong public outcry.

Once called the Chinese Pavilion, locals cherished it as a key part of the town’s charm. It’s a lovely spot to relax and enjoy the stunning views of Lyme.

After some back and forth, the council decided to restore it instead of demolishing it. They’ve done a fantastic job bringing it back to life.

At the reopening, the mayor, Cllr Philip Evans, cut the ribbon with a crowd of councillors and residents cheering him on. It was a proud moment for everyone involved.

Cllr Evans shared how much the building means to the community and acknowledged its past struggles. He mentioned that they initially thought about tearing it down due to issues, but the public’s voice made a difference.

Restoration kicked off last November, transforming the old, neglected pavilion into a bright, welcoming space. The upgrades included new oak posts, fresh paint, and even a rainwater harvesting tank.

In the spring, more plants will be added around the pavilion, thanks to the local group that fought to save it. The council has kept these campaigners in the loop throughout the project.

Cllr Evans expressed his gratitude for the skilled workers who made this happen. He hopes the pavilion will be a popular spot for both locals and visitors to enjoy the beautiful gardens and views.

Steve Hossack, one of the renovation team members, said he’s proud of the results and hopes the community will appreciate and use the space well.
