Rodd and Gunn is gearing up to open a new store in York, taking over the old Jack Wills site. Exciting changes are on the way!
York: Rodd and Gunn is getting ready to set up shop at 18-20 Stonegate, where Kingdom of Sweets used to be. This spot has been empty since the sweet shop closed down.
Before that, Jack Wills was the tenant from 2009 until 2020. The building is a grade II listed site, so it’s got some history behind it.
According to the planning documents, Kingdom of Sweets was the last tenant there. Rodd and Gunn already has stores in places like Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Bath, which they added last year.
Last August, an application for listed building consent was submitted to the City of York Council, but they didn’t mention who the new tenant would be at that time.
Now, Rodd and Gunn has submitted updated plans to the council. They want to make some changes, like enlarging the entrance to the store.
They’re also planning to add new signs and decals above the doors and windows. The shop front will be painted white, which should give it a fresh look.
There’s also a linked application for signage and logos to hang over the entrance. The consultation on these proposals wraps up on February 6, and you can check out the details on the City of York Council planning portal.
