Dudley businesses face new waste service fees, raising concerns over costs and fly-tipping
Halesowen MP Alex Ballinger wants to pause these changes. He believes businesses, charities, and community groups need time to adjust.
Ballinger said local businesses are already under pressure. He thinks it’s unfair for Dudley Council to force them to find new waste providers quickly.
He also mentioned that charities are concerned about rising costs. These costs will likely be passed on to consumers.
Fly-tipping is a big issue in the area, especially near Foxcote Fields. Ballinger fears these changes might worsen the problem.
Businesses can keep their bins, but they must pay for them. This adds to the financial strain.
Dudley Council is working on a new budget and needs to save £42 million. This has led to the waste service cuts.
Trish Bradley from Crafting for Communities shared her concerns. Their small charity is classified as a commercial waste producer.
She said finding affordable waste solutions is tough. They can’t use household bins for their waste.
Councillor Damian Corfield explained the changes. New government rules require separate recycling and food waste collections.
By March 2025, businesses with ten or more full-time staff must comply. Smaller firms have until March 2027.
Corfield noted that providing these services would need significant investment. They decided to stop the service due to uncertain demand.
