The RSPB Rainham Marshes café and shop will close for good on February 2, following significant budget cuts affecting the nature reserve.
Rainham: So, the café and shop at RSPB Rainham Marshes are shutting down for good on February 2. It’s a bummer, right? They’re closing as part of some big budget cuts.
They mentioned on Facebook that the top part of the visitor center will also be closed for a bit in February while they sort things out. It’s all part of trying to save around £12 million.
Unfortunately, this means no more café, shop, or education programs in the way we know them. And who knows what’s going to happen with the visitor center after the next year?
A spokesperson for RSPB expressed their gratitude to all the staff and volunteers who’ve been part of the café and shop over the years. It’s nice to see them appreciate the hard work.
Even though the café and shop are closing, the trails and toilets will still be open. Just a heads up, you’ll need to enter through the garden gate for a while.
Last week, Romford MP Andrew Rosindell raised concerns about the closures and is looking for government support to help out. He’s committed to working with RSPB to protect this important site.
