Airband is giving free broadband to community centres in Worcestershire to help reduce isolation and improve digital access for locals
Recent research shows that many locals rely on these centres for various activities. About 26% of residents use them for social events, recreation, and even education. So far, Airband has connected over 500 venues and is encouraging community hub managers to sign up for this free service.
This initiative is part of Airband’s mission to provide complimentary Wi-Fi to community hubs across Worcestershire and nearby regions. James Hyland, the head of residential for Airband, emphasized how important these centres are for fostering connections and a sense of belonging in the community.
The research also pointed out that community centres play a crucial role in fighting loneliness, especially during the winter months. Nearly 18% of residents visit their local hub at least once a month, and 41% believe these spaces are vital for their community.
On a brighter note, community centres help people make new friends and get involved in activities. Many residents join meetings, fitness classes, and social events, which really brings people together. If you manage a community centre, don’t miss out on registering for this free broadband offer!
