The RWB Shed is back in action, reopening in a new location after a temporary closure, much to the delight of the community
Royal Wootton Bassett: The RWB Shed is a part of the UK Men’s Shed Association. For eight years, it’s been all about promoting men’s mental health while teaching woodwork skills. They’ve built benches, planters, notice boards, and more.
During that time, the group didn’t just help with woodwork for local schools and businesses. They also created a space where guys could connect and make lifelong friends, especially those feeling lonely.
Previously, they operated out of the Fire Station in town. But in October 2023, they had to close up shop when the fire service needed the space back. It was a tough break for everyone involved.
Fast forward a year, and the good news is that The RWB Shed is making a comeback! Thanks to some local funding, they’re set to reopen on March 27, 2025, at a new spot on Brinkworth Road.
Residents are buzzing with excitement about the return of The RWB Shed. The reopening is made possible by a generous boost from local business Crapper & Sons Ltd through the Landfill Communities Fund.
This fund is managed by Wiltshire’s rural community council, Community First, with extra support from the Royal Wootton Bassett Town Council, Lydiard Tregoze Parish Council, Royal Wootton Bassett Rotary Club, and North Wilts Woodturners.
Mark Hopkins, the town clerk, expressed his joy about the reopening. He highlighted how important the group is for the community, bringing people together to create and repair things while fostering a welcoming environment.
On March 27, the new location will be officially opened by the town mayor, Councillor Pat Farrow, along with town crier Owen Collier. It’s a big deal for everyone involved!
Phil Howell, the treasurer, is encouraging anyone in or around Royal Wootton Bassett to join in. It’s a great chance to connect with others and boost your well-being.
