City: Severn Trent. So, Storm Eowyn is on its way, and it’s bringing some serious weather with it. We’re talking strong winds and heavy rain that could last a few days.
The Met Office has already put out weather warnings for Friday and Saturday. Some areas might even see gusts hitting 70mph. Yikes!
Most of the Severn Trent region is under yellow warnings for wind and rain, but coastal spots, especially in Wales, are looking at amber warnings and could get hit the hardest.
It seems like the stormy weather will stick around until Saturday, but things should calm down by Sunday. This is actually the fifth named storm we’ve had this season.
In the past, strong winds have caused all sorts of trouble—travel delays, damage to buildings, uprooted trees, and even power outages. So, it’s no joke.
Severn Trent is stepping up and giving out advice on what to do if flooding happens. They’re ready to tackle any storm-related issues that come up.
Scott Ludford from Severn Trent’s Network Control team mentioned they’re expecting heavy rain and strong winds from Friday into Saturday. He reassured everyone that their teams are prepared for whatever comes their way.
He also noted that while Storm Eowyn will bring heavy rain, it shouldn’t be as bad as what we saw with Storm Darragh back in December. Still, flooding can be really distressing, so they’re sharing advice on who to contact if things go south.
For flooding on roads or small rivers, reach out to your local council. They can help with blocked drains and other issues. If it’s major river flooding, the Environment Agency is your go-to. Their Flood line number is 0345 988 1188.
If you’re dealing with sewer flooding or burst pipes, you’ll need to contact Severn Trent. They might have to wait for the water to go down before they can check things out. Don’t forget to call your insurer too!
To keep your home safe from flooding, there are a few things you can do. Empty any water butts in your garden before the rain hits. This helps reduce the flow into drains.
Make sure your home and garden drains are clear. Check for leaves or debris that could block the flow. And don’t forget about the roadside drains—clear those out too or let your local council know if they’re blocked.
