Residents and local leaders are urging for safety improvements at a dangerous junction on the A477 road in Pembrokeshire
Pembrokeshire: There’s been a lot of chatter about a tricky junction on the A477 road. Folks are worried about safety after a string of accidents and close calls.
Recently, the Eglwyscummin Community Council and residents from Red Roses met with local politicians to voice their concerns. They think the junction is downright unsafe.
During the meeting, it was clear that the number of near misses and crashes is on the rise. The community is hoping that by keeping the pressure on the Welsh Government, they can get some much-needed safety upgrades.
Samuel Kurtz, a local Senedd member, is leading the charge. He’s been working with the Community Council and has been in touch with the Welsh Government to push for action.
He recently had success in changing the layout of another dangerous junction, which has made a real difference for locals. Now, he wants to tackle the issues at Red Roses and address speeding problems in nearby Milton.
After the community meeting, Kurtz said the council has been proactive in sharing drivers’ experiences at the junction. They’ve suggested some changes that could make it safer.
He pointed out that while the junction meets all the criteria on paper, it’s still a dangerous spot in reality. Drivers heading west towards Pembroke have no turn-off lane and have to slow down suddenly to make a sharp left turn.
This situation has led to several crashes, including drivers hitting signs when they can’t make the turn. Kurtz believes there are simple steps that could improve safety and is asking the Welsh Government for a review of the A477.
He’s also inviting locals to share their experiences, whether good or bad, to help make a stronger case for change. If you’ve got a story, reach out to him on Facebook or via email!
