The Salvation Army wants to keep its storage container in Prestonpans for five more years, as current permissions are about to expire.
Prestonpans: In 2019, The Salvation Army got permission for a storage container. It’s located in the alternative car park of Preston Links Shopping Centre.
Last Monday, they applied to keep the container for at least five more years. The current permission runs out on Wednesday.
The application was discussed at a Community Council meeting on Tuesday. DJ Johnston-Smith, the chairperson, expressed some concerns.
He noted that the longer the container stays, the more permanent it seems. It has already been there for six years, and now they want another five-year extension.
Johnston-Smith mentioned that if it stays for over ten years, it might get unofficial planning permission. He acknowledged it’s used for storing donations for the charity shop.
He added that they will ensure it doesn’t become a permanent fixture. The container is in the service yard at Preston Links Shopping Centre.
The proposal details are available online. It states the container is for storing donations for The Salvation Army charity shop.
