Great Wolford: The Fox and Hounds pub closed in 2016. Since then, there have been four planning applications to convert it into private homes.

A group called Save the Fox and Hounds formed to protect the pub. They believe losing it would hurt the community.

In December, the Planning Inspectorate approved the owners’ appeal to convert the pub into residential units. This surprised many in the community.

Save the Fox and Hounds has sought legal advice and filed court papers for a statutory review.

James van Helden, a committee member, expressed shock at the decision. He noted that the planning committee had previously rejected the application.

The group has not given up. They submitted a planning statutory review last week.

The application received 235 objections, showing strong community support for the pub.

The pub has been a beloved social spot for nearly nine years. Turning it into housing would be a significant loss.

It provided a place for people to gather and supported local suppliers and employees.

A viability report showed the pub is still financially viable.

The group believes their review is valid, as the decision-making process was flawed.

They have raised over £4,000 in a week through GoFundMe to cover legal costs.

The first planning application in 2018 aimed to convert the pub into two homes but was withdrawn.

In 2021, another plan to change the B&B area into residential use was rejected.

The latest application seeks to turn the Fox and Hounds into two residential properties.

To keep the community spirit alive, Save the Fox and Hounds has been hosting pop-up pubs to raise funds.
