Loch Long: The Scottish Greens are really pushing back against a salmon farm proposal. They believe it could seriously damage the loch’s stunning scenery and wildlife.
This isn’t the first time this proposal has come up. Developers tried to get it approved before, but the National Park Authority shot it down last year.
Then, the Scottish Government decided to take a closer look, which is pretty rare. But local voices are loud and clear about their concerns.
According to Burgess, the loch is famous for its beauty and wildlife. She pointed out that a salmon farm could ruin the coastline and harm local animals.
Plus, Loch Long is just a stone’s throw from the popular Loch Lomond, which makes it even more special. It’s home to seals, otters, and seabirds, all of which could be affected.
And let’s not forget, it’s part of a Special Area of Conservation for Atlantic salmon, which are endangered. The community council and the National Park Authority have already voiced their opposition.
Burgess is adamant that this application is totally out of place. She’s calling on the Scottish Government to listen to the locals and put an end to this uncertainty.
She also mentioned that salmon farming can be pretty harmful to marine life and the environment. It’s time to rethink how much of our seas we’re giving away to this industry.
Now, it’s up to the Scottish Government and Cabinet Secretary Shona Robison to make the final call. The government has been asked for a comment, but we’re still waiting to hear back.
