Lyme Regis: Exciting news! The town council is teaming up with A Level art students from Woodroffe School. They’re working to improve the Sculpture Trail in Langmoor and Lister Gardens.

Right now, the trail has sculptures from professional artists. But the council wants to highlight the creativity of local students. It’s a great way to showcase young talent!

Cllr Cheryl Reynolds, who leads this project, is thrilled. She’s impressed by the students’ enthusiasm and hard work. It’s a joy to see their designs come to life in the gardens.

Thanks to Ben Russell, a former student and now a sculptor, the students are getting valuable guidance. They’re creating sculptures mainly from Portland stone, with some using metal.

Next, town councillors will choose at least three designs to turn into full-size sculptures. These will be placed around the beautiful seafront gardens.

Richard Vine, head of art at Woodroffe School, shared how this project helps students connect with their local history. They’re learning about Lyme Regis while creating art that reflects their community.

Students are considering their audience and the materials they’ll use. This process mirrors what professional artists do, making it a fantastic learning experience.

Charlotte, one of the students, designed a sculpture inspired by the old steam train Puffing Billy. She’s excited about this opportunity and hopes her work gets chosen.

She mentioned that not many Year 12 students get to participate in such projects. It’s a unique chance that could lead to bigger things in the future.

Charlotte feels proud to see her hard work recognized. It’s a wonderful feeling to know that effort can lead to great opportunities!
