Residents in Herne Bay are receiving electric heaters as they face a heating crisis due to a gas supply disruption affecting hundreds of homes
SGN, the gas supplier, reported that a third party disrupted their line. Locals have been told to turn off their gas and put a yellow sticker on their front door to alert workers.
The latest update from SGN mentioned that several hundred properties around Cornwall Road are affected. Engineers are on-site, but there’s no word yet on when things will get back to normal.
Temporary traffic lights are up in Cornwall Road, and some residents are frustrated that their road names weren’t included in the list of affected areas.
One elderly woman shared her experience, saying SGN tried to deliver a heater at 1:30 AM but didn’t leave one. She’s been huddled up with her husband, who has asthma, trying to stay warm with a small electric fire and a recently purchased electric blanket.
Councillor Rachel Carnac is keeping residents updated through social media, trying to share information from SGN. She mentioned that some homes are being switched back on, but many are still left in the cold.
With temperatures dropping to freezing, the situation is quite concerning. KentOnline has reached out to SGN for more updates on when gas supplies might resume.
