Local councils want your input on proposed council tax increases for 2025/26
South Kesteven: So, here’s the scoop. Council tax bills might be going up, and the local councils want to hear what you think about it.
South Kesteven District Council is mulling over a 3% hike for its part of the bill for the 2025/26 year. That’s about an extra £5.51 for a band D property.
Council leader Ashley Baxter mentioned that this increase is crucial to keep services running smoothly and to fund their future plans.
He said that the extra cash would help cover everyday services like rubbish collection and street cleaning, plus support longer-term projects.
They’re looking for your feedback through a survey that’s open until February 3. You can find it online.
Meanwhile, Rutland County Council is also asking for opinions on their budget, which includes a proposed 4.99% increase in council tax.
This would raise the band D rate to £2,218.95, which is about £8.78 more each month. Council member Andrew Johnson said budgeting this year has been tough.
They’ve faced rising costs and lost some government funding, but they’ve managed to balance the budget without dipping into reserves.
Johnson pointed out that the government expects councils to raise taxes to the max, which he feels is unfair.
