Ebbw Vale: Sidoli’s has been around for over 100 years. They’re teaming up with Harlech Foodservice to reach new customers.

This award-winning ice cream maker started in 1922. It was founded by Benedetto Sidoli, an Italian immigrant. Now, his great-grandson, Stefano, runs the company.

Stefano is the fourth generation in charge. He sees this partnership as a great chance to market their ice cream all over Wales, especially in the north and west.

Harlech Foodservice has distribution centers across the country. Stefano believes this will help them reach new markets. He appreciates working with a family business that shares their values.

Harlech Foodservice is based near Criccieth in Gwynedd. They are one of the fastest-growing food distributors in the UK.

In just three years, their sales jumped from £32 million to about £50 million. Their profits also hit a record high of over £2 million.

Chris Gregson, head of sales at Harlech, admires Sidoli’s story. He notes how Benedetto brought ice cream-making skills from Italy in the 1920s.

Stefano adds that many Italians came to South Wales looking for work back then. His great-grandfather started a café in Ebbw Vale without any ice cream equipment.

He had to ship ice from Cardiff and break it down by hand. Back then, he could only make two gallons of vanilla ice cream a day.

Today, they produce 264 gallons an hour and offer over 50 flavors. But vanilla remains the favorite.
