Councillors will visit Lochside to assess plans for a new concrete plant amid local opposition and environmental concerns
Mr. L Scott wants to build a self-batching concrete station on Irongray Road. This land is empty and part of the Lochside Industrial Estate.
However, 22 people oppose the project. They worry about noise and pollution. The site is near homes and a boarding kennel.
The planning committee discussed the application on Wednesday. One objector urged councillors to refuse or delay the decision. They suggested a site visit to see the issues firsthand.
Another objector, Nicole Manley, expressed concerns about toxic dust affecting nearby residents and wildlife.
The applicant’s agent, Homer Young, explained the plant’s purpose. It aims to reduce waste by allowing customers to buy only what they need.
Young emphasized that this plant is not for large-scale production. It targets small contractors and DIY enthusiasts.
He also addressed dust concerns. Cement will be delivered in sealed containers, minimizing dust escape.
Councillors decided to defer their decision until after visiting the site.
