Storm Éowyn could bring tornado risks to Somerset, with weather warnings in place across the UK. Stay alert for updates!
Somerset: So, there’s a bit of a buzz about the weather lately. The European Storm Forecast Experiment, or ESTOFEX for short, has put out a Level 2 warning for much of the South Coast of the UK. Sounds serious, right?
This warning lines up with a yellow weather alert from the Met Office, which is in effect for the rest of Thursday and all through Friday. It’s going to be a wild ride!
ESTOFEX has even highlighted two areas on their map where tornadoes could pop up. They’re saying there’s a small chance of tornado events in southern England. Yikes!
Specifically, there’s a 15% chance of severe tornado activity around the South Coast, including Somerset, and it stretches almost to Cornwall. That’s a pretty big area!
On top of that, there’s a larger area with a 5% chance covering more of southern England and south Wales. It’s definitely something to keep an eye on.
According to ESTOFEX, they issued this Level 2 warning mainly for severe wind gusts, with a few tornadoes possibly joining the party. They can’t rule out a strong event either, which is a bit nerve-wracking.
They explained that an active cold front is expected to move through during the day, and it’s all tied to some intense weather patterns. Basically, it’s a recipe for some serious wind and maybe even a tornado or two.
As Storm Éowyn rolls in, it’s going to affect a lot of the UK over the next few days. Red weather warnings are already out for parts of Northern Ireland, Scotland, and northern England.
So, if you’re in the UK, brace yourself! Winds are set to pick up from west to east on Friday, with peak gusts hitting 80-90 mph. Stay safe out there!
