Residents of Sproughton raise concerns over HGV traffic on narrow village roads
Sproughton: Residents are worried about heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) using their narrow roads. They’ve noticed that weight limits on the B1113 are often ignored. This has turned their village road into a shortcut for the A14.
People have brought this up with their parish council and local officials. They’ve spoken to Babergh district councillor Helen Davies, Suffolk county councillor Christopher Hudson, and their MP, James Cartlidge.
Mr. Cartlidge agrees with the residents’ concerns. He plans to write to the county council to find a solution. He has visited Sproughton several times to meet with locals and hear their worries about traffic speed and volume.
He mentioned that Sproughton’s narrow roads and junctions often get congested. The village is close to the A14, which makes the HGV issue worse, especially when trucks are diverted through the area.
Mr. Cartlidge has talked to Suffolk Highways about possible solutions. He wants the county council to prioritize this traffic challenge for the community.
From September to December, Sproughton was a diversion route due to A14 roadworks. This caused issues, including a collision with a house and broken drain covers. Villagers hoped the end of the diversion would reduce HGV traffic, but that hasn’t happened completely.
