Cllr Alexander Winning criticizes Reform UK for using grooming victims for political gain
Southampton: Cllr Alexander Winning is not holding back. He recently fired back at a Reform UK member, Philip Crook, who suggested there might be a child grooming gang issue in the city. Winning’s response? He thinks it’s shameful to exploit such a serious topic for political gain.
This all comes after Elon Musk took to social media, calling out Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer about the ongoing scandal of organized gangs abusing young girls. Winning pointed out that while Southampton hasn’t faced this issue, the national problem is urgent and needs action.
He emphasized that child abuse gangs are pure evil and criticized the previous government for ignoring the recommendations from a lengthy inquiry into child abuse. Winning is relieved to see the new government taking steps to address these issues and make it a crime to cover up such abuse.
He believes protecting children should always come first, not worrying about offending institutions. In a twist, Crook responded, saying it’s the victims who are truly exploited, not the political parties. He expressed disappointment that Winning brought party politics into such a serious matter.
Just a couple of weeks ago, Southampton Itchen MP Darren Paffey also spoke out against misinformation surrounding grooming gangs, stressing that victims must be prioritized. He assured that the government is committed to strengthening laws and supporting victims.
