A tragic incident in Southport leaves multiple children injured and two dead, raising concerns about safety and security in public spaces.
Southport: It was a sunny day when a horrific event unfolded at a children’s play event. Twenty-six excited girls, aged six to eleven, were dropped off by their parents, ready for a fun time.
Axel Rudakubana showed up just before noon, dressed oddly for the weather in a green hoodie and a mask. He had even searched online for a previous stabbing incident before heading out.
When he arrived, he didn’t pay the taxi driver, which led to a bit of a scene. A body shop worker tried to intervene, but Rudakubana just brushed him off.
Inside, the kids were busy making bracelets, and everything seemed normal. But then, Rudakubana walked in with a knife, and chaos erupted.
He started attacking the nearest child without a word. The screams of terrified children filled the air as he moved through the room, trying to stab as many as he could.
One girl tried to escape but was pulled back in. She later stumbled out, collapsing outside. Rudakubana chased after the kids, stabbing them as they fled.
He also attacked Leanne Lucas, the event organizer, and Jonathan Hayes, a businessman who tried to help. Witnesses described the horrifying scene of young girls running out, bleeding.
Outside, a mother waiting for her daughter heard the screams and quickly grabbed her child and others to get to safety. Sadly, one of the girls, Alice, died from her injuries the next day.
When the police arrived, they found Rudakubana still holding the bloody knife. He dropped it when ordered. A brave bystander helped rescue one of the little girls.
Inside, the police discovered the tragic scene, including the body of seven-year-old Elsie, who had suffered fatal injuries. The chaos ended with Rudakubana’s arrest, facing serious charges for his actions.
