Sproughton: Recently, there’s been a bit of a kerfuffle in Sproughton. Traffic from the A14 was diverted through the village, and it’s been a real hassle for the locals.

The work by National Highways, which started in September and wrapped up in December, brought a lot of heavy vehicles down High Street. Folks were already worried about the noise and safety issues.

Then, there’s Stacey Carly, who’s really had it. She says the heavy traffic broke a drain cover right outside her house, and it’s still not fixed a month later.

Suffolk Highways took a look but decided the damage wasn’t bad enough to warrant a repair. Stacey’s not happy about that. She mentioned how the noise from the broken drain cover is driving her nuts.

She pointed out that High Street isn’t meant for all this heavy traffic. In fact, there was an incident where an HGV even hit her house!

Stacey thinks the council should reconsider their criteria for repairs. She remembers back in 2006 when they had a better system, with HGVs going one way and smaller vehicles another. She’d love to see that return.

Suffolk Highways insists everything is safe and doesn’t need fixing right now. They said the covers have to sink quite a bit before they’ll step in. But for Stacey and her neighbors, it’s just not good enough.
