Sir Keir Starmer changed his email after a suspected Russian hack in 2022, raising security concerns for the Labour leader.
London: Sir Keir Starmer had to change his email after a suspected Russian hack. Security services warned him about potential infiltration in 2022.
His office chief, Jill Cuthbertson, told staff not to email him. No reasons were given at the time, which raised concerns.
A new book claims Starmer changed his email to a “dangerously obvious” one. He also added two-factor authentication for better security.
This breach happened shortly after Russia invaded Ukraine. It was part of a larger attack involving Paul Mason, who advised Labour’s shadow defense secretary.
Mason was in Ukraine before the invasion, sending briefings to Starmer and others. His account had sensitive information about Labour’s defense policies.
At a briefing, Labour advisers were informed that Starmer’s email might have been hacked. This raised alarms about the security of their communications.
The book also reveals that Starmer relied on an actress for public speaking help. Additionally, Angela Rayner almost launched a coup against him in 2021.
During the Tory leadership race, Liz Truss’s phone was reportedly hacked by agents linked to Putin. They accessed sensitive discussions about Ukraine.
