Hampshire braces for Storm Eowyn with yellow warnings for rain and wind this weekend, affecting travel and local communities
Hampshire: The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings for rain and wind this Sunday and Monday as Storm Eowyn approaches. The rain warning kicks in at 8am Sunday and lasts until 6am Monday.
For wind, the warning affects areas south of Romsey and Eastleigh, including Southampton and Fareham. This warning is active from 8am to 3pm on Sunday.
Forecasters expect strong winds and heavy rain to sweep into the southwest on Sunday morning, moving east throughout the day. Winds could gust between 50 to 60 mph, with some exposed areas possibly seeing gusts up to 70 mph.
Travel disruptions are likely, affecting road, rail, air, and ferry services. Coastal routes and communities might face spray and large waves, too.
There’s also a chance of power cuts and some homes and businesses could experience flooding. This comes as a yellow wind warning is already in place for Hampshire.
Additionally, the Met Office warns of gusty winds on Thursday and has a second warning for Storm Eowyn in effect all day Friday.
