Residents in North Yorkshire are urged to be cautious of uninvited tradespeople after Storm Éowyn caused significant damage
North Yorkshire: After Storm Éowyn hit, the council is warning folks to be careful about tradespeople who show up at their doors. They’re saying don’t just agree to any work from roofers or other workers who come knocking.
The storm caused a real mess, with trees down, power lines snapped, and buildings damaged all over the place. It was pretty wild!
Strong winds knocked down trees, blocking several roads. In Northallerton, for instance, a tree fell and caused some chaos. Residents are being told to watch out for shady traders who might exaggerate the damage to get work.
Cllr Greg White from the council mentioned that these rogue traders often use sneaky tactics, like carrying loose tiles to convince people their roofs are damaged. If someone shows up at your door claiming you need repairs, it’s best to be suspicious and just shut the door.
The storm really shook things up in North Yorkshire, with over 80 reports of fallen trees. The council’s teams jumped into action to clear the roads as quickly as they could.
About 3,000 homes lost power due to the storm, but Northern Powergrid worked hard over the weekend to get everyone back online.
Cllr Keane Duncan praised the council teams for their quick response, saying they did a great job managing the situation. He also thanked residents for their patience during the cleanup.
If you need a tradesperson, it’s a good idea to ask friends or family for recommendations and get at least three quotes to compare. Better safe than sorry!
