Luke Deakin’s epic journey to Vietnam includes wild encounters and new friendships
Stratford: Luke Deakin is on an incredible journey, walking about 7,500 miles to Vietnam. He kicked off his adventure on September 16, starting from outside Shakespeare’s Birthplace.
So far, he’s trekked through several countries, including France, Germany, and Serbia. He’s hoping to finish this epic walk in about a year. Luke’s goal? To connect with the world in a way that’s real and personal.
He shared that walking allows him to meet new people and dive into different cultures. Plus, he’s always dreamed of an adventure like this. Vietnam holds a special place in his heart since he volunteered there before.
Luke’s favorite stop so far has been Serbia, where he found the locals to be super friendly and the food delicious. He’s keeping his trip budget-friendly by mostly camping and eating from supermarkets.
But it hasn’t all been smooth sailing. One wild moment was when a wolf wandered into his camp in Belgium. They both froze, probably just as scared of each other!
He’s also had some lighter moments, like waking up by the beautiful River Danube in Germany. And when Google Maps led him onto a motorway in Austria, the police were kind enough to help him out.
Now, Luke’s buddy Kyle has joined him on this journey, which has made things a lot more fun. They’re both excited about the adventures ahead, especially walking through India and finally reaching Hanoi.
After Vietnam, Luke dreams of visiting every country on Earth. He’s got big plans, and you can follow his journey on Instagram at @Chubbytrekka.
