Nick Knowles shares his journey of recovery after serious injuries on Strictly Come Dancing, revealing it will take eight months to heal fully.
London: Nick Knowles is on a tough road to recovery after some serious injuries from his time on Strictly Come Dancing. The 62-year-old TV presenter is currently in a leg brace and is learning to walk again after multiple surgeries.
At the opening night of Cirque du Soleil’s Corteo show, he shared, “I’m still recovering. It’s gonna be about eight months before it’s like fully 100 percent again.” It’s a long wait, but he’s staying positive.
His journey on Strictly was rocky from the start. Just two weeks in, he hurt his arm while changing a tire in the rain, which kept him off the dance floor for a week. Then, during a dress rehearsal with his partner Luba Mushtuk, he suffered a brutal ACL tear.
Even though he tried to push through, he was eliminated in week four, becoming the third celebrity to leave the show. Nick mentioned that he paid for his medical expenses himself, saying, “It’s in the contract that they don’t.” But he appreciated the BBC’s support during his recovery.
He’s determined to get back to his adventurous lifestyle, saying, “I want to get back to the point where I can carry on doing all the adventurous stuff that I’ve done before.” He even plans to keep surfing with his 10-year-old son, despite feeling a bit “knackered and old.”
Looking back, Nick has no regrets about his Strictly experience. “You don’t go into things and then regret doing it afterwards, so I don’t regret it at all,” he said. He sees his injuries as “badges of honour for having lived a life less ordinary.”
