Glasgow: Sainsbury’s has decided to close its supermarkets and convenience stores in Scotland and Northern Ireland because of the wild weather. The storm is really hitting hard with strong winds and heavy rain.

Yesterday, the Met Office put out a red weather warning for central Scotland, which is pretty serious. It’s in effect from 10am to 5pm today, so folks are being told to stay safe.

One of our photographers caught a sign on the door of a Sainsbury’s Local in the Southside. It said, “Due to the storm, the store will be shut till 6pm. Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.”

A spokesperson for Sainsbury’s mentioned that they’re closing stores to keep everyone safe. In Northern Ireland, all stores will be closed from 7am to 3pm, while in Scotland, the most affected areas will see closures from 7am to 6pm.

They’ll reopen once it’s safe after the weather warning is lifted. Online grocery deliveries and Fast Track services are also canceled until things improve.

They really care about the safety of their customers and staff, and they hope everyone understands this tough decision.

With the Met Office warning people to stay indoors, trains are suspended, and many schools are closed. Wind speeds could reach up to 100mph during Storm Eowyn, which is no joke.

Police Scotland is advising against any travel in the red warning area, and ScotRail has halted all services for safety reasons. The warning covers a large area, including Glasgow and Edinburgh, stretching all the way to Jura in Argyll and Bute.
