Gideon Amos expresses frustration over delays in Musgrove upgrades, urging immediate action to support local NHS services and patients.
Taunton: Gideon Amos, the local MP, is really upset about the long wait for upgrades at Musgrove Hospital. He’s calling out the delays and wants urgent steps to help the NHS and patients in Somerset.
Recently, Health Secretary Wes Streeting announced that work on a new maternity and pediatric unit won’t kick off until 2030 to 2035. That’s a long time to wait!
In the last two elections, the Conservatives promised a new hospital for Taunton by 2030, but it looks like that’s not happening. Mr. Amos has been pushing for better funding for social care and the NHS, especially for Musgrove Park.
He’s asking for an urgent meeting to talk about safety and maintenance at the hospital. He’s frustrated that despite promises, there’s no funding from the last Conservative government.
Amos said, “It’s clear now that the new hospital was never really on the cards. Patients and residents will be disappointed that the new unit won’t be ready until the 2030s. Musgrove Park needs this upgrade now!”
He’s also backing calls for the government to assess the impact of these delays. He appreciates the hard work of the staff at Musgrove, who have cared for many locals, including his family.
However, he pointed out that conditions are tough, with staff struggling in extreme heat and rain leaking indoors. “It’s unacceptable,” he said. “No one should be at risk because of these delays.”
Mr. Amos is determined to work with the hospital trust to secure the necessary support until the new unit is finally built.
