Burnham-on-Sea residents will see a 35% tax hike to maintain essential services and avoid losing public facilities
The increase means that for a typical Band D property, folks will pay about £194.62 a year. That’s an extra £51.21. It’s a big jump, but the council says it’s necessary to keep things like parks and public restrooms from falling apart.
They’ve got to take over some services that Somerset Council used to handle. If they don’t, they risk losing them altogether. To figure out the impact of this, they set up a special group to look into it.
The budget includes money for maintaining cemeteries, running community events, and even keeping an eye on things with CCTV. They’re also planning to give out grants to local groups, which is pretty cool.
The council’s spokesperson mentioned that they’re not sure how much more they’ll need to take on in the future. So, they decided it’s not wise to dip into their savings just yet.
They really had to think hard about this tax hike. It’s a tough call, but they believe it’s the best way to keep Burnham-on-Sea thriving. They want to make sure the community doesn’t lose out on vital services that everyone relies on.
