A 17-year-old has been convicted of murdering Kamari Johnson after a dispute over a stolen moped escalated into a tragic confrontation
Hayes: A 17-year-old was found guilty of murdering Kamari Johnson after a heated argument over a stolen moped. It all went down in broad daylight, which is just shocking.
The court heard that the two boys met up after chatting on Snapchat about the moped. Kamari wanted £180 for it, but when they met, he took the cash and just rode off. Talk about a bad deal!
Feeling embarrassed and angry, the defendant went to Kamari’s house to confront him. Unfortunately, things took a dark turn when he stabbed Kamari in the chest. Kamari managed to escape on the moped but collapsed shortly after.
CCTV footage showed the whole thing, with the defendant chasing Kamari while wielding a large knife. Witnesses described seeing him with a blood-stained weapon, which is just horrifying.
In police interviews, the teen claimed he acted in self-defense, but the jury didn’t buy it. They took over 13 hours to deliberate before reaching their verdict, and Kamari’s family was understandably heartbroken in court.
Detective Chief Inspector Alex Gammampila called it a senseless killing, emphasizing how the community tried to help Kamari but couldn’t save him. The defendant is set to be sentenced soon, and it’s a tragic reminder of how quickly things can spiral out of control.
