Temporary barriers have been set up at Cowdenbeath roundabout to enhance pedestrian safety after recent incidents
Cowdenbeath: Recently, some barriers at Fountain Roundabout were damaged. So, they’ve been swapped out for temporary ones to keep everyone safe.
Cllr Darren Watt shared on Facebook that while these new barriers help guide pedestrians to use footpaths and crossings, they’re not enough. He’s pushing for stronger, permanent barriers to be put in place soon.
He’s already talked to Fife Council’s transportation team and is waiting for their feedback. It’s important to get this sorted out.
He also mentioned that the original barriers were custom-made. After a previous issue, they were replaced with similar ones that were taken from Bridge Street. Now, standard barriers are in use, but they need to look good in the area.
Safety is the top priority, though. He emphasized that it’s a busy road leading to the high street, so the barriers need to be effective.
Gordon Henderson, the lead consultant for roads, explained that these temporary barriers are just a stopgap. They’re waiting for new, specially made pedestrian barriers to be created and installed permanently.
