Thames Valley Police Chief Constable Jason Hogg is reinstated after a suspension due to misconduct allegations, pending an ongoing investigation.
Thames Valley: Police and Crime Commissioner Matthew Barber admitted he relied too much on the IOPC’s assessment for the suspension.
On January 16, the IOPC began investigating Chief Constable Jason Hogg for gross misconduct.
They claimed he didn’t properly investigate sensitive police information retention from 2016 to 2020.
As a result, he was suspended immediately.
Today, Barber announced Hogg’s return to his duties as Chief Constable.
He explained that the suspension was meant to maintain public confidence in policing.
After reviewing the situation and getting legal advice, Barber realized he had over-relied on the IOPC’s findings.
He emphasized the importance of high conduct standards in policing and public reassurance.
While the IOPC continues its investigation, Barber is glad to reinstate Hogg to lead Thames Valley Police.
Barber expressed his confidence in Hogg and looks forward to working together for the community.
He reiterated that the suspension was neutral and that Hogg is innocent until proven otherwise.
Barber has discussed the situation with the Policing Minister regarding police accountability and PCC powers.
He acknowledged the uncertainty caused by the allegations and suspension within Thames Valley Police.
However, he believes their strong working relationship will help them continue to protect the community and reduce crime.
