Douglas: A star-studded lineup is gearing up to hit the Gaiety Theatre stage in February with ‘Chicago: The Musical’. It’s going to be a real treat!

This show is part of the Douglas Choral Union’s 129th year of entertaining Manx audiences. Chicago is one of those timeless Broadway classics that everyone loves.

The story, inspired by real events, follows Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly, two performers who find themselves in a media frenzy after committing murder. It’s a wild ride!

A spokesperson from the Douglas Choral Union shared that Chicago is a sharp satire on crime and fame, all set against the glitzy backdrop of the 1920s.

With music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb, plus choreography by Bob Fosse, this show is packed with unforgettable numbers like “All That Jazz” and “Cell Block Tango”.

They’re promising a fresh take on the classic choreography and some jaw-dropping performances. It’s going to be something special!

The cast is impressive, featuring Jordan McCormack as Velma Kelly, Evie Skillicorn as Roxie Hart, and David Artus as Billy Flynn, among others. They’ve got some real talent on that stage!

David Artus is no stranger to the Gaiety, having starred in several productions over the years. He’s got quite the resume!

Jordan McCormack has also made waves, playing Rizzo in ‘Grease’ and recently appearing in ‘Jersey Boys’. It’s exciting to see such familiar faces.

David Dawson is directing, and he’s known for his previous hits with the Douglas Choral Union. Liz Dixon is back as the musical director, and Breeshey Crookall is on choreography.

Grace Hoodless, a committee member, mentioned the incredible dedication from everyone involved. They’ve been rehearsing three times a week since September to bring this iconic musical to life.

This will be the first time the Douglas Choral Union stages Chicago at the Gaiety Theatre, and they’re thrilled to keep the tradition of top-notch entertainment alive.

Thanks to their title sponsor, DQ Advocates, for making this production possible. Last year, over 6,000 people attended their show, and they expect Chicago to draw big crowds too!

Mark your calendars! There will be 10 performances from February 7 to February 15. You won’t want to miss it!
