The iconic locomotives will operate special passenger services in Wansford this February and March
Wansford: You won’t believe it, but The Flying Scotsman is back! For three special weekends, folks can hop on this legendary train at the Nene Valley Railway.
This beauty is over 100 years old and was the first to hit 100mph. It’s a big deal in the train world! The Flying Scotsman will be running passenger trains along a scenic 7.5-mile route between Wansford and Peterborough.
Mark your calendars for the last weekend of February and the first two weekends in March. It’s a rare chance to ride this iconic locomotive, and you can even snap some photos on the footplate!
After The Flying Scotsman’s weekends, Britannia will take over on March 15 and 16. You can grab day rover tickets or even try your hand at being a driver!
And if you’re a fan of fish and chips, both trains will be pulling the Jolly Fisherman evening train on February 22 and March 15. Sounds like a fun night out!
These special weekends are part of Railway 200, celebrating the opening of the Stockton and Darlington Railway back in 1825. Plus, they’re helping raise funds for Nene Valley Railway, which has been hit hard by COVID and rising coal costs.
The Flying Scotsman was built in 1923 and named after the famous train service between London and Edinburgh. Tickets for rides go on sale at nvr.org.uk on January 16 at 3 PM, so don’t miss out!
Britannia, which started service in 1951, has a rich history too, connecting London to the Netherlands. If you’re 18 or older, you can book a driver experience or passenger tickets for Britannia right now!
