King’s Lynn: The community group that will take over the historic Carnegie library has been chosen. Norfolk County Council has picked The Garage Trust after a careful selection process.

Cllr Jane James announced the decision at a cabinet meeting, highlighting the importance of finding the right custodian for the beloved building.

The Garage Trust, known for its commitment to the arts, has locations in both Lynn and Norwich. Cllr James expressed excitement about the trust’s potential to continue the library’s cultural legacy.

Adam Taylor, the CEO of The Garage Trust, shared his enthusiasm for this opportunity. He emphasized their mission to transform lives through the arts and engage the community in meaningful ways.

The trust plans to relocate its activities to the Carnegie, ensuring the building remains a vibrant cultural hub. They aim to work closely with local residents to develop the site sustainably.

They’ll keep the library’s historic features intact while offering a mix of free and paid programs. Meanwhile, the library services will move to a new community hub in the town center, set to open in 2025.

This project is part of the Lynn Town Deal regeneration program, funded by the Government and the county council, aiming to create a modern space for learning and community activities.

As they finalize the agreement, The Garage Trust looks forward to collaborating with the community to make the Carnegie library a cherished resource for everyone.
