The Woodman pub in Bridport has been awarded CAMRA’s 2024 Pub of the Year, showcasing its excellence in the local pub scene.
A panel of independent CAMRA volunteers judged the pub using a points system. The Woodman stood out among many local pubs to win this honor.
Landlord Darren Moore and his team were excited to receive this award. Last year, they reached the national finals for CAMRA’s “National Pub of the Year” and made it to the last four for “National Cider & Perry Pub of the Year.”
CAMRA called this a remarkable achievement. No other pub has had such success in both awards.
The award was presented at the Dorchester Beerex event. Darren dedicated the award to his late friend Victor Irvine from the Cerne Abbas brewery.
Darren expressed his joy, saying, “I’m over the moon. This was a real shock. Everyone at the pub is extremely happy. I hope we can reach the top spot this year.”
He also thanked West Dorset CAMRA for their support.
Bruce Mead, the West Dorset CAMRA Chairman, praised the Woodman. He noted that the pub continues to thrive under Darren and his team. They came close to the final four in the national competition last time.
A spokesperson for West Dorset CAMRA described the Woodman as a welcoming pub. It serves five cask ales and a wide selection of traditional ciders.
The staff are helpful and guide customers through the drink options. The pub’s walls display many awards, thanks to Darren, his partner Alison, and their loyal team.
The Woodman is a traditional high-street pub, a rare find today. It’s worth a visit when in Bridport. West Dorset CAMRA wishes Darren and his team success in the upcoming regional finals.
The Woodman will now represent West Dorset in the regional final of the competition.
