Three individuals face charges after a pro-Palestinian protest in London led to multiple arrests and police interviews with notable figures
London: So, there’s been quite a stir in central London lately. Three more folks have been charged after that pro-Palestinian rally that ended with 77 arrests. It was a big deal!
Former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and MP John McDonnell were also interviewed by the police after the protest. They didn’t get charged, but it’s still a lot of attention.
The police didn’t name Corbyn and McDonnell, but they did mention that two older men, aged 73 and 75, were released after talking to them. They were at the protest too.
Some protesters allegedly tried to break the rules set for the Palestine Solidarity Campaign event by marching out of Whitehall. But the organizers are saying that’s not true.
Now, about those three new charges: Benjamin Jamal, 61, from Kingston upon Thames, is facing public order offences. He’s set to appear in court soon.
Then there’s Jamila Zadran, 32, from East Ham, who’s charged with assaulting an emergency worker. She’ll be in court shortly as well.
And Luke Jacobs, 22, from West Hampstead, is charged with obstructing a police officer and causing some damage. He’s got a court date coming up too.
Jamal, who leads the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, says he’s going to fight these charges hard.
Corbyn and McDonnell were seen at the protest, and they’re now in the spotlight. They didn’t have much to say when the press reached out.
Interestingly, nine people have already been charged with public order offences from that protest, including Corbyn’s brother, Piers, who’s 77 and from Elephant and Castle.
Others charged come from various places, and they’ll all be appearing in court soon. It’s definitely a situation to keep an eye on!
