Exciting upgrades in Thurso and Wick aim to make these towns safer and more enjoyable for everyone, with projects starting soon
Thurso: Some great news is coming out of Thurso and Wick! Local councillors are buzzing about new active travel projects and improvements in the town centers. They just got an update on the progress, and it sounds promising.
The Highland Council’s active travel team is rolling out several schemes in Thurso. They’re focusing on spots like Ormlie Road and Janet Street. It’s all about making things better for pedestrians and cyclists.
In Wick, the Town Hall is getting some much-needed repairs and maintenance. Plus, there are plans to upgrade the Riverside area to make it more appealing for visitors and boost the local economy.
At Ormlie Road, they’re upgrading junctions and adding new drop kerbs. Over at Janet Street, they’re widening and resurfacing the footpath, which is a big win for walkers. They’re also relocating the A9 park entrance to make things easier.
And it doesn’t stop there! The path leading to the bridge by the Boating Pond will also get some repairs. All these improvements are funded by the council’s initiative fund and should kick off soon, wrapping up by April.
Thurso is also getting a £20,000 boost for community-led projects, focusing on Victoria Walk. They’ll replace some old fencing with guardrails to keep everyone safe while enjoying the views.
In Wick, they’re investing £18,000 from a larger fund to enhance the town center. This includes resurfacing roads and pathways, plus adding traffic calming measures. It’s all about making the area more inviting.
Councillor Ron Gunn is thrilled about the progress. He believes these projects will make walking around Thurso and Wick much safer and more enjoyable for everyone.
