Tom Hayes shares his dedication to improving Bournemouth and invites residents to share their stories and concerns for a better future
Bournemouth: As a new MP, I’m always learning and trying to stay positive. But honestly, it’s frustrating how much Parliament feels like a bubble.
It blows my mind how little some folks in Parliament know about our town. I’m working hard to change that. I talk about Bournemouth all the time, and it’s funny when a Conservative MP from Dorset just calls me “Bournemouth”!
I really want to hear from you. Your stories matter! I visit local businesses, charities, and hold regular meetings at libraries. I’m out there knocking on doors every weekend. Your emails and letters help me share your voices in Parliament.
We all know how we got here, and I don’t want to dwell on the past. You elected me to fix things, not just talk about them. I’m here to be honest about what we can achieve together.
I get it; people want change, and so do I. We have a lot of work ahead of us, but I’m determined to make it happen.
It’s going to take time and effort. I know we’ve all felt let down. I don’t want you to think nothing is happening. I’m working with many locals to improve Pokesdown Station, increase dental services, fix potholes, and upgrade our playgrounds.
Seeing broken playground equipment and potholes really shows how our town has been neglected. That’s why I fought for funding to fix our roads and made playgrounds the focus of my first parliamentary debate. I was proud to represent over 30 parents in that discussion.
Better playgrounds might seem small compared to the NHS issues, but they’re important. They show I’m serious about restoring what’s been neglected. We’re making progress, even if it takes a bit longer.
I always want to hear from you. Find me on Facebook and Instagram, where I share daily updates about my work for you. And feel free to email me at tom.hayes.mp@parliament.uk with your thoughts on this column or what you’d like to see more of.
