The Tories are calling out Labour for pushing back the Royal Berkshire Hospital project to 2035-39, breaking promises made during the election.
The Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust was supposed to benefit from this initiative, but now it feels like a distant dream. Last year, Labour candidates in Reading promised to deliver a new hospital if they won, and they did. But now, it seems like they’re not keeping their word.
Councillor Pauline Jorgensen, a Conservative, is really upset about this. She pointed out that Labour has delayed the project by a decade, which feels like a betrayal to the community. She reminded everyone of the promises made during the election, especially by MP Yuan Yang, who assured residents that the hospital would be built soon after Labour took office.
It’s frustrating for residents who were counting on this new facility. Jorgensen emphasized that the Conservatives will keep fighting for the hospital and supporting the NHS Trust. Meanwhile, Streeting defended the Labour MPs, saying they’ve been vocal about the hospital’s importance.
But it’s hard to ignore the fact that no new hospitals were built in the last five years, despite some openings in other areas. The whole situation has left many feeling disappointed and questioning the commitments made during the campaign.
