Toys ‘R’ Us is making a comeback in Darlington with a new store opening soon, featuring fun giveaways for kids on launch day
Darlington: Exciting news for toy lovers! Toys ‘R’ Us is opening a new store in the WHSmith at the Cornmill Shopping Centre. It’s taking over the space that used to be Marks and Spencer Food.
Mark your calendars for Saturday, February 1! Geoffrey the Giraffe will be there to kick off the grand opening. The first 50 kids will snag a free goody bag worth £15. How cool is that?
Remember, Marks and Spencer closed its section in WHSmith late last year. So, the shelves have been pretty empty since then. But soon, they’ll be filled with all sorts of toys and gadgets!
Marks and Spencer mentioned they’re always reviewing what they offer in franchise stores. They decided to end their small range in Darlington, but you can still find more M&S Food at their West Park Simply Food store.
WHSmith is helping bring back Toys ‘R’ Us after it closed down in 2018. They’ve already opened stores in places like Scarborough and York.
It’s been a tough road for Toys ‘R’ Us, which had to shut down 100 shops and lost over 2,000 jobs. But they announced a relaunch in October 2022 and teamed up with WHSmith for UK concessions.
Last May, they confirmed 17 new locations and planned to open 30 more by the end of August. They even opened their first North East store in Newcastle last October.
Get ready for a fun grand opening at 9 am, with lots of giveaways and activities planned!
New signs are already up at the Cornmill WHSmith, featuring the classic Toys ‘R’ Us branding and Geoffrey the Giraffe, teasing the launch.
This will be the brand’s first store in Darlington, as they previously had a megastore at Teesside Park, which has since been transformed into a B&M.
