The Craven Dairy Auction saw impressive bids, with the top pair fetching £2,800 each, showcasing the quality of the livestock on offer.
Craven: The recent dairy auction was quite the event! A stunning white heifer caught everyone’s eye, winning top honors from judge Will Oldfield. It had a fantastic udder and a great dairy frame.
Following closely was a fresh heifer from the Bolland family, which also impressed with its strong build and attachments. Both heifers sold for a remarkable £2,800, heading home with Richard Sutcliffe and his son George.
Robert Crisp brought in some Dales heifers that did well too, with one fetching £2,250. Overall, the average price for the eight heifers in milk was around £2,019, which is pretty solid.
Looking ahead, the next auction is set for February 3, and it promises to feature around 25 in-calf heifers from the Bollands and other local vendors.
In the prime cattle sale, a Limousin heifer made £2,149, while cull cows averaged £1,158. Some black and white cows even hit over 190p/kg, which is impressive!
There was also a strong showing for dairy-bred rearing calves, with British Blue bulls hitting a high of £460. Prices for heifer calves were good too, with some reaching £400.
As for the sheep, 2,739 head were entered, and while there was a bit of resistance in prices, the best lambs still sold well. Some heavy lambs fetched up to £190, which is great to see.
Overall, it was a busy day at the auction, with plenty of quality livestock and competitive bidding. Can’t wait to see what the next auction brings!
