Two mid-terraced homes in Portadown are being converted into houses of multiple occupancy, allowing more residents to live together.
Portadown: So, here’s the scoop. Two mid-terraced houses are getting a makeover to become houses of multiple occupancy, or HMOs for short. Sounds like a big change, right?
The first property at 35 Carleton Street is being transformed by O’Callaghan Planning for B. Hughes. They’re planning to keep three bedrooms upstairs but will turn the living room into another bedroom. Plus, they’ll add a shower room upstairs. Pretty neat!
According to the planning report, the living room will shrink a bit, but the kitchen and utility room will stay. They’re looking to fit in seven people total, with three double rooms and one single. No worries about noise, either; the Environmental Health Department gave it a thumbs up.
Now, about parking—there’s a bit of a squeeze. They’ll need three parking spaces instead of the usual two and a bit. But don’t fret; there are plenty of on-street parking options nearby.
Then there’s another property at 57 Bridge Street, also going the HMO route. This one’s already a six-bedroom place, and they want to let up to 12 people live there. No changes to the outside, so it’ll look the same from the street.
Again, the Environmental Health folks have checked it out and are cool with it. They don’t think it’ll bother the neighbors, which is always a plus.
So, it looks like Portadown is gearing up for some more bustling homes. Exciting times ahead!
