Storm Eowyn is approaching the Isle of Man, bringing strong winds and weather warnings. Stay safe and be prepared for disruptions.
Isle of Man: So, Storm Eowyn is on its way, and it looks like it’s going to pack quite a punch. The UK Met Office is predicting winds that could hit up to 99mph. Yikes!
The weather report shows the Isle of Man right in the storm’s path, all shaded in dark purple. That’s not a good sign, as it indicates some serious wind gusts.
Basically, the darker the purple, the stronger the winds. And right now, the Isle of Man is looking at wind speeds between 90 and 99mph. That’s pretty intense!
There are multiple weather warnings across the UK, and it seems like Storm Eowyn is going to cause a lot of disruption. Some areas in southern Ireland even have red warnings, which means it’s dangerous out there.
On the Isle of Man, the Ronaldsway Met Office has issued an amber warning. It’ll start as a yellow warning at 2am, but from 8am to 1pm, it’s expected to ramp up to amber due to severe gales.
After 1pm, the warning will drop back to yellow and stay in effect until 8pm on Friday. But keep an eye on updates, as they might change things based on how the storm develops.
There’s also a yellow alert for coastal overtopping from 5:30am to 9am on Friday. Large waves could lead to sea water and debris spilling onto coastal roads, especially around high tide.
Areas like Shore Road Rushen and Castletown Promenade are at risk, so if you’re in those spots, be careful!
The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture is warning folks to steer clear of glens and plantations during the high winds, especially since some areas are still recovering from Storm Darragh.
They’re keeping crews on standby, but if you see anything concerning, you can reach out to them via email.
And if you’re planning to take the ferry, the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company is keeping a close eye on the weather. Four of their sailings might be disrupted or canceled, so check before you head out.
