Newport: So, there’s this empty shop at 24 Courtybella Terrace that’s about to get a new lease on life. Mr. Nassir Mahmood from Al-Hamdan Properties Ltd is behind the plan to turn it into a two-bedroom house.

The ground floor shop and the unused flat above will be revamped. They’re going to make it all cozy with living spaces and a kitchen downstairs, plus bedrooms and a shower upstairs.

They’ll also be sprucing up the place to meet all the building rules, like adding energy-efficient windows. The old shopfront is coming down, and they’ll put in features that fit in with the neighborhood.

Plus, they’re thinking about bike storage to encourage folks to cycle around. It’s all part of a plan to help with the housing shortage in Newport.

What’s cool is that this new home will blend right in with the area, which is mostly residential. They don’t expect it to bother the neighbors much since they’re not changing the building’s size or shape.

Even though there won’t be any private outdoor space, there are parks nearby, which is a nice trade-off. And while there’s no off-street parking, the street parking and public transport options should do the trick.

The idea is to get people walking, biking, or using public transport instead of relying on cars. They’re also including a spot for bins that meets local waste rules.

So far, no one has raised any objections to the plan. The application was officially logged on January 16, 2025, and you can check it out online if you’re curious.
