A group of local volunteers took action to clean up litter in Blackburn, showing their commitment to a cleaner environment and community spirit
Blackburn: A bunch of young folks decided to roll up their sleeves and make a difference in their neighborhood. They spent hours cleaning up the Ash Street car park, which is just off Whalley New Road in Bastwell.
This car park has a bit of a reputation. People often grab takeaways and leave their trash behind, even though there are bins nearby. It’s frustrating!
One of the volunteers, Shamraiz Malik, expressed his gratitude for everyone who joined in. He believes that the youth are key to a brighter future and that by cleaning up today, they’re setting a good example for tomorrow.
Shamraiz said, “Together, we can create a legacy of progress and positive change. I’m all in for making our community better.”
Residents have been vocal about the litter problem. Shaukat Hussain, a local councillor, urged people to report any fly-tipping they see. He’s also keen to support litter picks by providing equipment.
Cllr Hussain praised the volunteers for taking the initiative. He noted that the car park has seen its fair share of litter picks before, especially with so many takeaways around.
He added, “It’s fine to eat in your car, but please use the bins or take your rubbish with you if they’re full. We’ve even set up cameras to catch those who dump their trash.”
He encouraged more residents to take pride in their area. “This was a fantastic effort from the group. Moving forward, we need to work together with residents, businesses, and the council to keep our community clean.”
