Walton: Five-year-old Oakley Hilsden had been asking his mum, Heidi, for a dog since he was two. When they finally got a Romanian rescue dog named Dolly, he was thrilled. They quickly became inseparable.

But then, just before Christmas, Dolly went missing, leaving Oakley and his two-year-old sister, Tally, heartbroken. Heidi, 28, shared how Oakley had always wanted a dog, but their old house wasn’t suitable.

Once they moved, they welcomed Dolly into their lives. Heidi wanted to give Dolly a better life, especially since she had a deformed paw from her time on the streets. “She was Oakley’s little best mate,” Heidi said, recalling how he would read to her at night.

It hit Oakley hard when Dolly disappeared. He found a true friend in her, someone he could connect with without words. His grandmother, Paula, mentioned how Oakley would read to Dolly without any trouble, despite his speech challenges.

About a month after Dolly ran away, Oakley was still calling out for her from the window, hoping she would come back. “I can’t really talk to him about her,” Heidi said, “because it makes him really upset.”

The family has been tirelessly searching for Dolly, with help from Heidi’s parents, Paula and John. Paula described the instant bond between Oakley and Dolly, saying, “When they met, it was magic.”

They’ve printed over 500 posters in hopes of finding her. Heidi is urging anyone who might have taken Dolly in to return her. “If somebody has got her, please do the right thing and bring her back,” she pleaded. “I don’t want to give up until I know what happened and where she is.”

If anyone has seen Dolly or knows where she might be, they can reach out to Heidi at 07380 929942.
