Hillingdon: Warm welcome centres are popping up everywhere. They’re run by churches, community centres, and libraries. Visitors can enjoy coffee mornings, board games, arts and crafts, and book clubs.

These centres also offer health advice and workshops, including dementia support and men’s health. H4ALL, Healthwatch, and The Confederation, Hillingdon support these initiatives.

In November and December, over 2,800 visits were recorded at these centres. Anne Bevan from Ruislip enjoys the Get Creative craft group at Ruislip Manor Library.

She says it’s about the company and learning new skills together. Everyone is welcome to join for a warm drink and some friendly conversation.

Some people can’t afford to heat their homes, so these centres provide a cozy place to relax. Irene Proctor, also from Ruislip, finds it a happy place to share her problems.

She appreciates the understanding and support from others in the group. Eileen Clark from Uxbridge joined a soup lunch at Uxbridge Community Centre after hearing about it from friends.

She enjoys getting out and meeting people close to home. Cllr Jane Palmer, Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care, emphasizes the importance of these centres for winter support.

They aim to create healthy households and assist vulnerable residents in the borough.
