Scotland: So, it turns out BT has pulled the plug on a big electric vehicle charging project. They only managed to set up one charging point before calling it quits. They had this grand plan to turn old broadband cabinets into EV chargers, thinking it was a golden opportunity.

But after just one cabinet got the makeover, BT’s digital team decided to scrap the whole idea. A spokesperson mentioned that they learned a lot about the challenges EV drivers face while trying to charge their cars. They’re now shifting gears to focus on improving Wi-Fi at charging stations instead.

It’s a bit of a bummer, especially since most charging points are in busy areas, not near where people live. Stuart Masson from The Car Expert was disappointed but noted that overall, the rollout of charging points is actually moving along faster than expected.

He also pointed out how frustrating it can be when you arrive at a charging station, only to find you can’t connect to the app because there’s no signal. If BT can tackle that issue, it would be a real win for EV drivers.
